Stuffing the ‘motete’

I carry stuff. I carry stuff every day and add more stuff daily. My everyday carry of stuff is overwhelming by the end of the week. I accumulate a lot of stuff in seven days. Last night, before starting a new week, I checked my motete to discover what stuff I had accumulated during the week. I was carrying too much of the wrong stuff – my motete was stuffed with smelly stuff! I emptied it and cleaned it up for next week’s stuff.

I think thoughts. I think thoughts every day and add more thoughts daily. My everyday list of thoughts is overwhelming by the end of the week. I accumulate a lot of thoughts in seven days. Last night, before starting a new week, I checked my mind to discover what thoughts I had accumulated during the week. My list of thoughts contained too many toxic thoughts – my mind was stuffed with toxic thoughts!

Last night I emptied my motete and my mind. I cleaned the motete and God scrubbed my soul. I resolved to fill them both with good stuff this week.

Summing it all up, friends, you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse.

What does your everyday carry look like this week?

I resolve to stuff my motete with good stuff this week. I’ll let you know how it goes.

If next week is anything like last week I can’t afford to carry a heavy, stinky motete full of stuff!

  1. This is beautiful. Last week has been tough for me and it has filled so much stress and anxiety (almost ruined my weekend, too). Will join you in your resolution this week and be more conscious about the good things we are given every day.
